Slavinja SZABORA turns 11 today!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday, Helga!

For us, Helga – Slavinja SZABORA is an extraordinary dog. Always focused on her owner and eager to work.
Helga is currently in excellent condition, although the beginning of the year was very challenging for her. Fortunately, thanks to the invaluable help of the doctors and staff at the VetPalnet clinic, Helga can now keep up with her daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, and even great-great-granddaughters at a full gallop.
This special day is also a good opportunity to draw attention to the challenges that may arise with senior dogs.
Helga has always enjoyed good health, never been sick, and has always been in great shape and condition. Until the age of 10, she was an honorary blood donor, undoubtedly saving the lives of many dogs. Her regular test results always came back with the comment: “everything is perfectly fine, results like those of a young dog.”
Nevertheless, this spring, Helga suffered a stroke as a result of an injury. Thankfully, the stroke left no significant lasting effects, and we were able to restore Helga almost completely to her pre-incident state.
This situation should remind all of us that our dogs, even when in good health, shape, and condition, are inevitably, often imperceptibly, aging.
Our dogs will do everything for us, but unfortunately, as they reach a certain age, this will increasingly come at the cost of their health. Aging is a natural process, but we, as owners, need to be aware of certain things. An older body regenerates more slowly, tires faster, and is more sensitive and fragile. We must keep this in mind and often think on behalf of our four-legged friends.
The metabolic changes that come with age often require a revised diet. The diminishing senses of an older dog require our patience and understanding. A dog’s personality may change, just as their appearance does. Preventive check-ups for older dogs should be more frequent and tailored to their age.
We will always remind the owners of our “puppies” of this and offer our advice and experience when needed.
P.S. Of course, happy birthday to Helga’s siblings as well!
